Why do we regret about our past?

You may have always think that “If I have done this in past instead what I have already done, I would have been happier”. In other word, sometimes we regret what we have done in past. And we always wanted to go back in time to fix that moment, which could have given us more pleasure. But there is the problem, we can’t go back in time, at least not in near future.
So how we can come up with the solution, so that we don’t have to regret about the things we have done in past. Is there even a solution? Since time machine is out of the solution, so it’s on us to make the solution, or rather make some changes to our life which will ultimately make our memory happier than ever.
I know you may think why you would change your life just because I tell you to. You may think, even if you change your life according to what I am going to tell, will it actually works on you?
But let me tell you it’s not about changing anyone’s life style, rather practicing something in addition along with your day to day work. First I am going to give you an example.
Have you watched the movie “About Time”? The movie is about a family, and the male member of the family can travel back to time. In each generation the father has to teach his son about the time traveling and its consequences. In the beginning of the movie when the actor has been told that he can go back in time, by his father, he recklessly go back in time, and fix everything he has done wrongly. He even got a nice GF (the actress). He starts thinking he can fix anything and can live happily ever. No regrets, right? Who don’t wants that type of power? But movie don’t end here. And of course it’s not the solution we are taking about.
One day his father told him one secret about time traveling which can give him more happiness and tell him that he can see how beautiful life actually is. And that secret was, “live one full day without going back in time, and when the day end, go back in time, and again live the same day, but this time, enjoy every moment of life, fix the problems you got throughout the day”. It seems fun to the actor, and yes it is definitely a solution for “regretless past”. But unfortunately we don’t have that kind of power. And luckily movie doesn’t end here too.
When everything was going fine, his father got cancer and was about to die in few months. The father asked to meet his son one last time, wanted to spend some time with him. During his last period of life he gave his son a last lesson of time travel. And he told him not to go back in time ever unless it is required so badly. He told him to live every moment of life as it will come only once, just like the actor is reliving each day by going back in time. He told his son that by doing this he will know the true value of life, the importance of persons coming and going in his life.
And soon it seems irrelevant to go back in time. Living the life as it is seems more cheerful and adventures that he even forget to go back in time. It make him to do works so perfectly that going back in time seems waste of time.
Mistakes and losses are a part of life, learn to endure it, and live the life happier. Regret shows us the importance of life, learn from your mistakes and promise yourself not the practice it anymore.

This is the ultimate secret of life.
Be happy, make other happy!
